La Bastide is situated just below the little hamlet of La Mourre. You approach it by a long unmade up drive which is not suited to low slung cars. It is in an extremely private position with spectacular views over the valley. Further down the road are various farming and vineyard properties.
The house is about 10 minutes drive from La Garde Freinet and Plan de la Tour - both very picturesque villages which have some lovely restaurants and market days.
St. Tropez is about half an hour away and well worth a visit just to view the "passing show" if nothing else. There are numerous beaches all along the coast about 30 minutes drive away. We are about an hour and a half from Nice and Marseilles airports, 40 minutes from Toulon airport and two hours from Monte Carlo.
The house is well maintained and fully equipped. Most of the bedrooms are en suite and are all tastefully furnished. On the lower ground floor there are 2 ensuite double bedrooms, 1 ensuite twin bedroom, 2 twin bedrooms and a family bathroom. A babycot is available.
Upstairs on the ground floor there is an additional twin bedroom with ensuite bathroom, a large living room with bar, satellite t.v., video, stereo system and doors leading out onto a large front terrace with spectacular views over the valley, hallway, w.c., dining room, fully equipped modern kitchen with electric oven, hob, dishwasher, large fridge plus a utility room with washing machine, dryer, microwave, large chest freezer and an industrial sized fridge. Doors from the kitchen lead out onto a second large shaded terrace with a built in barbeque and a table that comfortably seats 12. There are steps leading from this terrace down to the garden and pool. There are an additional two rooms up on the 1st floor of the turret which we retain for ourselves and are therefore locked.
There is a telephone in the hallway which will receive all incoming calls and allow you to make local calls only. There is central heating on the ground floor and all bedrooms on the lower ground floor have electric radiators. Blankets and duvets are available.
The property is fully geared up for small children. Stairgates and terrace gates have been fitted so if you wish, the children can be completely contained within the house and 2 terraces without fear of them wandering off. The swimming pool measures 5.5m x 12.5m and has large graduated steps and a diving board. It is fenced off from the garden with a lockable gate.
The house is surrounded by 12 acres of woodland, mostly cork trees, and there is a lawn with flowering shrubs leading from the house down to the swimming pool. Like all other properties in the area we are not on mains water and rely on our own private supply for all water for the house. We have 3 large tanks which hold approximately 12,500 litres and these will be full on your arrival. During July and August it can be very dry and on occasions not as much water as usual is pumped up daily to fill the tanks. In this event we will arrange to have water delivered. Please note that we are in the country and therefore subject to increased insect life such as mosquitoes and horseflies during July and August when it is very hot.
We regret that under no circumstances are pets allowed on the property.
There are numerous golf courses all around La Garde Freinet and tennis courts in the village and at Plan de la Tour. It is a very popular area with cyclists.
Our english agents are on hand to help with any enquiries you may have and they will pop in shortly after your arrival to show you what's what. Linen is not provided but can be hired at £10.00 per set which includes a set of sheets, pillowcase and bath towel, laundry to be done after your departure. Beach/Swimming towels are not provided. Our rentals commence and end on a Friday. The house is not available from the end of October to the beginning of April.
