Alpe d'Huez Only 65 km East of Grenoble, the Alpe d'Huez was created in the 1930's on the Grandes Rousses Mountains at 1860 m altitude from which we can admire exceptional views. Because Alpe d'Huez is located on the south facing plateau of the mountain, it benefits from long hours of sunshine and a slightly warmer climate in the winter.
The surrounding villages still retain their gastronomic and working traditions, especially with “La transhumance”, summer migration of the herds into higher and cooler grounds, in other words, onto the ski slopes. This old tradition has provided the additional advantage of keeping the slopes in perfect condition, ready to receive the winter snow falls. The Alpe d'Huez offers a large number of outdoor activities in the summer such as hiking, cycling, horseriding, paragliding to name but a few.
