Featured Review 5/5Family stay - July 2008 Nowis, Whitley Bay, Tyne & Wear, UK Review Submitted: August 08, 2008, Date of stay: July, 2008
We had a fantastic 2 week stay.. The house itself is great & the layout lends itself very well to a large family (we were 2 sets of parents, 4 children all 5 or under & 2 grandparents!). The photos on the site don't do it justice, particularly the area around the pool - it doesn't show you the view out over the beach & castle.
Ferragudo itself is about 10 minutes walk - really nice place with plenty of restaurants & little shops hidden away. It caters very well for tourists but is not what I would call a tourist resort. We used the water taxi service a couple of times to go over to Praia da Rocha & Portimao - fab service.
Ferragudo is charming and for a relatively small village it is blessed with an abundance of good quality restaurants (at least one for each night of a two week stay!) serving fresh fish and all manner of typically Portuguese cuisine. The children will find plenty of their favourites on the menus. The village square comes alive during the summer months when it is the centre for an eclectic mix of entertainment including Portuguese folklore, English & Portuguese popular music groups dancing and children's entertainers. The bars surrounding the square are popular, relaxing and family orientated where you can enjoy a bottle of Portuguese wine, a cold beer, a coffee or an ice cream. The popularity of the area is evidenced by the growing number of ocean going cruise liners that are calling into Portimao. All our guests can also use the facilities of the Vila complex which includes reception, swimming pool and pool bar.
Local activities diving, surfing, swimming, tennis, walking, sailing, cycling, fishing, horse riding, golf, wind-surfing, water skiing, paragliding
Transfers to and from Faro Airport It is perfectly possible to enjoy a holiday here without a car although to fully appreciate what the Algarve has to offer we would recommend car hire (details of competitive suppliers can be provided on request). Full directions to the property will be supplied. We can arrange a taxi from the airport (approximate cost is 60 euros each way). As an alternative, why not take a taxi from the airport and hire a car later in the week – car hire can be arranged by Vila reception or in the village. Once you are at the villa the shops, beaches, restaurants and entertainment are all within easy walking distance. Organised coach tours run to the aqua and marine parks. There is a regular local bus service (with a stop close by) which runs between Portimao and Carvoeiro. As a novel way of getting around you could always book a water taxi to take you across the river to Praia de Rocha and Portimao
